My family

I am a Belgian citizen, living in the UK (Wales) since 1982 and I am currently connected to the Burn Survivors Association - UK, Great Britain and the European Federation of Associations of Burned Persons.

I was involved in an Industrial Accident in 1992 whilst working on an oil refinery in Scotland, leaving me with 50% burns to hands, body and face. I was discharged after having spend about three and a half months in Hospital....then my recovery began.

Although my recovery was a team effort between the Plastic Surgeons and all medical staff, it was the excellent after care of my wife, daughter and GP that brought me back to normal life again. There were no such things as Support Groups around at the time, to offer help. So to cut a long story short, I came through the ordeal reasonable well, but the mental and physical scars will always be with me.

At present I still have the support of some people around me and most probably unknown to them, they still contribute to my recovery. I know, that help is of vital importance to the patient recovery and this is the reason why I am pushing forwards to set up this database. I know that there are people and Support Groups out there who are prepared to give support, people who have been through the same experience, or qualified people who volunteer to help. The thing is that they're just not as yet registered on the Internet in Europe! I am in the process of contacting Support Groups, let's hope some cooperate.
