Parents Association for children with burns FEUERBALL is an Austrian association formed to provide help to children with burns. Our association has been in existence for more than 8 years and is located near Graz (cultural city of Europe 2003) in the federal state of Styria. Mrs. Maria Trop is the head doctor of the burns unit of the Graz university hospital and she founded the association together with parents from Styria and Carinthia. We have a very good cooperation with Dr. Trop and she can actually set the parents of seriously injured children in contact with FEUERBALL during the initial hospital care. Furthermore, she attends many of our activities so that the children look upon her as a friend and this is very advantageous when these children require further operations. FEUERBALL has many objectives: Firstly, when coming together, the children can exchange their experiences and problems, we help them to come to terms with the day to day problems, we train them in the daily usage of creams and we make it possible that they can spend a lucky time together where nobody looks at their scars, their neck supports, discoloured skin or their missing hairs. We organize camps once a year and regular day trips for about twenty children with serious burns and we are continually in contact with the parents about their problems. Finally, we try to prevent accidents by sending our FEUERBALL magazine to nursery school teachers, to children doctors, and we hold information days at primary schools.
